Kegin was tires of many things. He was tired of his brother. But most of all he was tired that nobody took him seriously, or gave him a chance to be anything. Kegin was walking the lake and decided that maybe he should forget and just relax. To be himself and not let what people say get to him. He looked out over the waters on the rest day given to the candidates and smiled. Today was a day to relax and that was what he was going to do. Relax. He sat on the sands and layed back to look at the sky, dragons soaring over head. He wanted to be free to fly the skies one day as everyone else did.

One of the dragons he saw seemed to be awfully agile and excited ... and had no rider. It took a moment for it to become apparent that the creature was not nearly as far away ... or as big ... as it had first appeared to be. Turning out to just be a young flitter, the coppery colored creature chirped and twirled around crazily before landing *pop* on the reclined lad's stomach.
Quite before he could react to that, something substantially bigger landed on him. "GOT YOU!" Orena shreiked, before realizing she'd just jumped on ... and landed rather roughly on ... someone else! "OH!" She rolled away again, trying to hang onto her flitter the whole time. Flapping and trilling in mock-terror, the young flitter seemed to be enjoying the attention ... and maybe even staged the whole thing just to be mean to both humans.
Orena scrambled up to her knees, and stared at Kegin with wide eyes for a moment, before she blushed and smiled. "Sorry about that. I didn't see you." with a deft twist and turn, she had the flitter around backward and stuffed under one arm and the other hand extended helpfully to the lad. "Are you okay?"

Kegin watched the flit and smiled when it landed on him. He was about to scratch it's eyeridge when he felt the sudden added weight. He let out a umpf and looked at the girl. He didn't like being landed on, expecially since he was trying to relax. "What were you thinking?" he asked holding his stomach. He took her hand up and looked at her. "I am fine. luckily I have had worse." Kegin chuckled once the innitial shock wore off.
Kegin let go of her hand slowly and looked from her to her flit. "Is it usual for that to be such a trap?" he asked. Kegin brushed off some of the sand and then glarred at the flit. At times he wished he had one, but this wasn't one of those times.

"Oh, I'm sorry! Goodness me." Orena apologized. "I really didn't see you there, I was watching Nemesis, here, and chasing her around ... it's kind of a game we play ... when she is in the mood to play, of course. She flies, I chase her. Keeps me out of trouble, most of the time." She smiled tentatively.
Nemesis wriggled and thrashed until she managed to get her head out from between Orena's side and her arm. Sitting up in the girl's grasp, she cheeped and fluttered her shiny coppery wings. Repositioning herself, she curled her tail around her flanks and leaned her shoulder against her person, much like a very friendly feline might have done had they been in the same position. Turning her head, she considered Kegin for a moment before looking over Orena's shoulder in the other direction at something else entirely.
"I'm glad you're okay. My name's Orena! What's yours?" She asked, trying to smooth things over and make peace. She usually didn't just randomly pounce on people... she only did that to people she actually knew!

Kegin looked at her and chuckled. He looked at the pair and smiled, "I see she is properly named." He rubbed his stomach again, "My name is Kegin. It is a pleasure to meet you. It isn't every day that I get a girl to land on me." Kegin chuckled and smiled at her. She seemed nice enough when her feet are on the ground. He looked at the flit and thought it a curious creature. It lost interest in him very quickly.
"So you two run around the weyr and jump onto random people you meet. I think that would be a fun way to meet people. A bit painful at first but I have a sense of humor. So how long have you been here? I don't really know everyone as of yet. Are you also a candidate?" He looked at her and couldn't help but think that she was cute. It was a lucky day for her to fall on him. He couldn't help but chuckle again at himself this time.

"Nice to meet you, Kegin! And yeah ... she is aptly named, I daresay so myself! She's such a fickle creature. One minute she's one way, the next the very opposite. Almost as if she can't make up her mind..." Orena stroked the flitter gently, earning a chirp from her. "Her own Nemisis." Nemisis rustled her wings again, and scooted around on the arm she was cradled in until she was faced the other way, inspecting Kegin once more with her small, swirling eyes.
"Well ... not jumping on people, no." Orena laughed. "It's not very often I manage to get close enough to actually catch her, either ... I think you distracted her, thus my being able to win this round. The only rule we have is she can't go between to get away from me... otherwise I'd never win!" A broad grin appeared on her face, before she shrugged a bit. "It's a silly game, but ... it keeps me from accidentally breaking things... most of the time!" She laughed.
"I've been here a while ... a few months. I got here right after the last big hatching they had, here." Orena shrugged. "It's been an interesting time, but that's always good. Learning stuff, seeing new things. It's certainly different from life in a hold, that's for sure! Oh! Yes, I'm a candidate. Ummm ... supposedly someday I won't always be a candidate." She grinned and winked. "Someday I might get to ride dragons, too!" She stuck her arm out, forcing Nemisis to suddenly have to re-balance and now hang on to not fall off. "They did let me get Nemisis, which I think is neat. Didn't charge me anything, either. All I had to do was show up and get her! Isn't that just neat? I didn't have to go nest-hunting, and I didn't have to buy the egg. That's quite novel, I think. Maybe you should get you one, next time they have a bunch hatching?" Orena suggested.

Kegin looked at her and chuckled. He liked they way she breezed through and relaxed as she spoke to him. SHe was fun. "I like the game. If i had one i would probably play. But might end up jumping into something that breaks." Kegin chuckled again and looked at her in the eyes, ignoring the flit. "I wouldn't mind having one but the only problem is I have some very bad experiences with them. Not the biggest fan."
Kegin looked around and thought it would be polite to not keep her standing. "Instead of continuing this game why don't you stay with me for a bit. I am sure I could probably keep you out of trouble. And someone else won't get landed on. Are you hungery?" he asked. Parts of Kegins mind reflexivly went to thoughts of what his brother might try around here. But he stopped the thought and relaxed.
For some reason when it came to knowing people he was always nervous. It didn't help that this girl was very cute and he was liking her personality. He didn't even mind Nemisis causing him the slight discomfort of her landing on him. "Or maybe we could even go for a swim, I was just watching the sky when I was interupted to I am not missing anything."

Orena tilted her head to one side a bit, and smiled. "I suppose that might happen. I haven't jumped into anything breaky yet, though ... barring you." She giggled, then shrugged. "Why don't you like flitters? If I'm not being too nosy..." Reaching up, she tucked a strand of fly-away dark hair behind her ear, then chunked Nemisis up into the air. The flitter took wing, circled twice, and then landed on her shoulder anyway.
"Nah ... I'm not hungry. Just ate, not too long ago." Orena apologized. "But a swim sounds like fun! Is the lake cold? I've never swum in it before... I hope it's not too cold..."

Kegin looked at her and smiled. "Actually I don't mind you asking. I was attacked many times by a Flit. Whenever it sees me it attacks me so I don't like them too much." He looked at her and watched her flit go up and then land on her shoulder. He chuckled and shook his head at the creatures troublesome nature. When she asked of the lake he thought a moment. "Actually I haven't been in it before as well. Why don't we find out together. We might be able to keep eachother warm is need be." He smiled and looked at the water to see if he might tell just by looking.

Orena giggled. "My, if my Ma heard you say that, she'd have you by an ear so fast you wouldn't know what got you!" Twirling around, she headed for the lake's edge and stopped at the edge, looking at the water for a moment. "I bet it's absolutely icy. Only one way to tell, I suppose." And just in case it was, she took it as she would any other cold water; at a dead run. Two swift, splashing paces in the shallows and she dove into the water, completely submerging and swimming away across the surface. She didn't go far, though, before stopping to tread water and blow some out of her face.
"Yep, it's cold! But not as cold as it could be!" She called, back to where Kegin was.
Nemisis was having none of it, though, circling lazily over head. She'd bailed off of Orena's shoulder just as soon as the girl had started running into the water, instead flying up into the air. Nope ... no cold lake water for her, no sir! She'd hang up here, and watch the silly people get all soaked, instead.

Kegin chuckled and looked at her. He walked to the water and began to walk into the shallows and deeper. The cold didn't seem to bother him. He walked up to her and smiled. "It feels nice." he said. "But positively not as cold as can be." Kegin smiled at her and chuckled. he looked at her flit and shook his head. "Some times I believe they are smarted then they should be." He looked at her and thought a moment. "And why would your Ma have my ear? Did I say something wrong?"
He didn't really know what he said but he shrugged and swam around her. "How about a game of tag?" he said. He touched her back and began to swim away as fast as he could underwater.

Orena laughed. "She would think so, maybe." Came the vague answer. But the offer of tag and then him taking off like that elicited a squeal of frustration and she took off after him across the lake. She alternated between swimming on the surface and underneath it, trying to catch up to him and tag him in return. Unfortunately, while a stout lass that knew how to swim, she wasn't exactly a speedy swimmer so much as an endurance swimmer. At first she gasped for her breaths of air, trying to sprint through the water after him, until she settled into the distance-eating rhythm that would allow her to eventually catch him up.
Overhead, Nemisis twirled and flew, catching on to the game. Swooping down low an arcing up high again, she more or less kept tabs on Kegin's location, making it awfully easy for Orena to follow him despite the murky lake water.

Kegin was a strong swimmer. It was part of his daily routine of keeping in shape. He was well with speed and endurance. He figured the flit would help her so he dove deep. Kegin grabbed hold of a large rock and saw a small crevice and hid in it. Once he was settle he calmed down his body and relax. It was a trick to use less oxygen and stay under longer. He closed his eyes and sat in a meditative position with his fists together in front of his stomach.

Orena paused in her swimming, and tread water for a bit as she looked around on the surface of the lake, trying to figure out where Kegin had got to. She didn't see any ripples, no signs of him anywhere. This far out, she was quite convinced that he hadn't swum to shore already and climbed out. So where had he gotten to? She glanced up at Nemisis, but the flitter was idly whirling overhead, chirping occasionally. A whole lot of help that was!
Up-ending, Orena swam down into the lake, looking around. She didn't see anything but murky depth, however, and ultimately returned to the surface again to look for Kegin there again.
"That's odd..." she told Nemisis, who chirped in agreement.

Kegin was about run out of air and decided it was time to go back up. He got out of his hiding spot and swam to the surface. the murky water didn't help with seeing so he ended up coming up underneath Orena. At first he thought he got caught in something and grabbed on to her legs, just under her hips. He tried to move her to reach the fresh air. (This is why swimming in a murky lake is a bad idea.) he thought to himself.

There was no other way to describe it; Orena shrieked. Something had grabbed her from beneath, and started shoving her around in the water. Flailing, she sent water spraying in all directions before a good few kicks sent her drifting away from the spot. Gasping for air, she twirled around in the water to stare at Kegin for a moment. Catching her breath, she scowled at him for a moment before busting out in giggles.
"You're awful!" She squeaked, before thrashing water at him playfully. "Scared me half to death, you did!!"

Kegin took a deep breath, only to get water in his mouth. He coughed and looked at her. "Was that necessary? I couldn't see and I didn't know it was you." he splashed her back and chuckled. "Though you do have soft legs." he said with a smile. He winked at her and tried to catch his breath. "well that was fun." he said. "What would you like now? We played tag and I won. We water warred and now maybe we should just float." Kegin went onto his back and floated in the water.

Orena blushed madly, and grinned at him. "Trust you to notice that! And of course it was necessary ... I had to get you back somehow, you imp." she teased, before rolling over onto her stomach and languidly swimming a short distance away to where the water appeared to change color a bit. Time to think of a game where she would win ... she rather liked winning, after all. Something ... something ...
Discovering it was a rock just under the surface of the water - out in the middle of the lake, too! - she grabbed a hold of it and hauled herself up onto it, before turning around. "I can walk on water!" She announced, trying to get his attention, knowing that from where he was floating, it would even look like it, too. A girl, standing in the middle of a lake ... toes barely in the water ... it would be really interesting to see how he reacted to that!! She stuck her arms over her head and whooped, grinning like a fool.

Kegin saw her blush and he liked the look on her. And the look of her. She was cute. And he wanted to see if anything could happen. He smiled at her and watched her a bit. He saw her drag herself out of the water and was a bit confused. Since the water was still murky he didn't see the rock. He floated over to her and looked up at her. "Nice trick. How is it done?" he asked. The view looking up at her made his smile grow on him. She really was cute. Almost beautiful to him. Kegin was about to ask more when he floated too close and hit his arm on the rock. "Ow. That explains it." He chuckled and waded the water. "Smart. I like it."

Orena giggled again, playfully, and splashed around on the rock, giving him enough room to clamber up onto it too if he wanted. "Pretty neat, I think! Huh?" She slapped the rock a few times with her feet, sending little sprays of water up. "I wonder how it got like this? I bet this is an absolutely huge rock!" Orena had no idea how deep the lake was, but she did know it was deep enough for dragons to swim in it.
Bemused by the appearance of Orena standing on water, Nemisis swirled downward, before kissing the water with her feet. The little copper squeaked and landed promptly, wading around in the shallow water atop the rock. Chirping, she started chasing a tiny pebble across the surface, just under water. The pebble was trapped in a depression on the bigger rock, thus being kept from being washed off by subsequent and ceaseless waves. But it was also extremely well polished and showed a layered structure that really pleased the young flitter.
