T'rin stood in the bowl of the weyr shading his green eyes as he scanned the skies. Amparath, have you seen Micra? he asked hopefully. The little green had been egg-heavy two days ago, but last night she had popped in for food and attention slim as a twig. So it followed that somewhere in the weyr or its surrounding areas were her eggs. But he had checked the Hatching Sands, and they weren't there.
I saw her this morning, but I do not know where she is now, the bronze said with an apologetic tone.
T'rin sighed, and called her from wherever she was. If he was lucky, she would come, and if he was really lucky, she would remember where she laid her eggs. But he didn't think he was lucky enough for the latter. Still, it didn't hurt to try.
She did show up, and he held out his forearm for the little green to land. She preened after settling herself, then looked at him expectantly. "Micra, where did you lay your eggs?" he asked, sending an image of multiple eggs and a questioning feeling. She chirruped, then projected confusion.
He scratched her eye ridges and sighed again, resigning himself to the fact that if he wanted those eggs, he would have to find them without help. He settled her on his shoulder, then set off into the weyr proper, but he didn't really have any places to search in mind.
Maybe you should look in deserted places, Amparath suggested, hoping to help.
He thought for a moment, then nodded. He would start looking in the unused weyrs. With renewed purpose, he headed up the stairs to the second level to search them out.

Rhia was getting frustrated. Gylfie had just returned to her after vanishing for a couple of days. The flitter had never stayed away so long before, but neither had she risen to mate before. Rhia knew that greens laid eggs, at least flitters did. Green dragons chewed stone and were sterile. She didn't understand why green flitts could clutch when she was certain she'd seen the little creatures taking part in the drills and spouting gouts of flame alongside the cousins who dwarfed them.
It was Mneith who had noticed the fact that her flitter was no longer bulging with eggs. The flitt had barely been able to fly. She could see the bulges of eggs, at least two or three, in the silvery-green's belly. Rhia had called the creature over and felt her belly. The green enjoyed the attention but was confused as to why her mistress was rubbing her belly rather than scratching her eye ridges.
Rhia knew it was useless to question the flitt about where she had been. The flitt was good about delivering messages but she could never remember if she had delivered them or not and she always forgot to wait for a message, or if she was lured into staying longer with food (as some of her resourceful friends were prone to do) she'd forget she had a message tied to her leg.
Tunnel snakes will get them if we don't find them.
Rhia grimaced. "I know. Hopefully she didn't hide them as well as a gold flitt would have."
Sometimes I wish the little cousins were smarter.
"I don't. They'd be more trouble that way." Mneith gave a draconic chuckle deep in his dark brown chest and Rhia allowed a small smile. "I guess I had better go looking then. I wonder if T'rin's flitt laid her eggs yet.
I could ask Amparath.
"Nah. If I see him I'll ask." She headed out of her weyr, running lightly down the flight of stairs. She saw a familiar figure climbing up to the second level and she hailed him to wait for her as she ran to catch up.
"Gylfie has laid her eggs. I'm looking for them. Has Micra laid hers?"

T'rin stopped and turned when he heard Rhia calling him. He ruffled a hand through his hair and nodded. "Yes, she showed up last night back to her normal proportions. I assume you're searching for Gylfie's? I thought I could start in the unused weyrs on this level. She might not have picked a populated area, as Amparath pointed out."
He hoped his dragon was right. Although the eggs wouldn't contain any metallic flitts, any flitts could be useful. Micra had run a few messages for him, and he did enjoy her company. But if he didn't find them soon, they were likely to be discovered by others, or tunnel snakes. He hoped to avoid that.
"So," he asked of the brownrider, "would you like to join forces? Two pairs of eyes would be better than one."

(( Well, I have my two male weyrlings that I really haven't rped... and they both would have work rooms! ( cause, you know, hurricane damage still) You could have one of their clutches be in one of them. There is my Smithy (S'yer) and my Carpenter (V'dann) and yes I know they aren't called that on pern, I just can't think of the appropriate term at the moment... ^-^; ))

"Mneith noticed that Gylfie was smaller this morning. I think she just had them but I can't be sure. She vanished for a couple of days and just returned." Rhia grimaced.
"Gylfie rarely leaves either me or the kids so for her to vanish for that long, I knew something was up. She was really egg heavy when she left and now she's slim. I didn't bother trying to get the location out of her because half the time she forgets that she has a reply to the messages I send her with."
She looked thoughtful when he mentioned Amparath's suggestion. "I believe your bronze might be right. A deserted place might be where they've hidden them. I wonder if they laid them in the same place or if we need to look for two different places."
At the offer of joining forces, Rhia nodded in agreement. "It would certainly help. Company is welcome and two eyes are better than one. How about we look in the storerooms once we look in the empty weyrs?"

"An excellent suggestion!" T'rin agreed, flashing his blinding trademark grin. "Shall we get started? I'll take the left, you take the right?" he asked, not really waiting for an answer before he started searching the empty weyrs on the left side of the hall.
After the first two, he made a checklist: Under the bed, in corners, and under any other furniture that might be around. But ultimately, he found nothing. Dusty and disappointed, he searched out Rhia. "Anything?" he asked hopefully, knowing it would be much darker in the storerooms, and there would be many more places the eggs could be hidden. "Also, maybe we could check the damaged parts of the weyr as well."

Rhia nodded and headed into the empty weyrs, looking in the corners and the warm bathing rooms, hoping that her scatter-brained flitter had managed to lay her eggs in a warm spot. She combed through the weyrs quickly but thoroughly. There wasn't much hope as long as the eggs were not found. Tunnel snakes or other vermin could get to them and the flitt was too silly to understand that she needs to protect her eggs.
The brownrider was a little dusty from poking into the unused rooms when she met back up with T'rin. "No luck." She sighed.
Got anything out of her?
No. She doesn't even remember that they are her eggs. She just gets excited.
"Mneith said that she just gets excited about eggs. She doesn't recognize that she has any." Rhia didn't want to get discouraged. She hoped the eggs were in the weyr. If they were outside, they wouldn't find them.
"I'll get some extra glows and see if I could borrow a torch from Uslanee. I'll meet you at the entrance to the storerooms in the kitchens." Rhia strode quickly to find Uslanee. She stopped in one of the side storerooms to grab a couple of baskets and some unused glows. She was able to get a torch from Uslanee. It would be better if the two riders didn't split up in the tunnels under the Weyr. It was too easy to get lost.

Relina was bored since she had no chores or lessons at the moment, so she decided to go visit the kitchens to see if she could help them do dishes or something. Zorn and Rhythm chittered quietly, wondering if they were going to be fed, and Relina had to explain that they were only going to help. Along the way, she saw Rhia, the WeyrlingMaster, as well as a couple others she didn't recognise, searching frantically for something. Curious, she cautiously approached the group.
"Hello WeyrlingMaster. I see you are looking hard for something, perhaps we can be of assistance?" She asked, her fire-lizards tilting their heads and chirping curiously at them.

Rhia turned and smiled at one of her older pupils. "My green flitt Gylfie, and T'rin's flitt Micra flew at the same time, and it seems they've laid their eggs and forgot where they laid them."
"How is Soranith?" She asked, calling the girl's green to mind. These guys had had the barest of lessons, but that would change soon. The Weyrwoman had something up her sleeve that would remedy that. She glanced at T'rin and then back at the young girl in front of her.
"I think we could use the help. We're about to go into the storerooms to search and see if they laid the eggs in there. Then we will go into the empty crafter rooms and see there.

"Absolutely," T'rin agreed, smiling roguishly at the girl. Even if he was frustrated, his mood was playful, now, with the fun of the search. "What's your name? I'm T'rin. And I say, the more, the merrier. Every man on deck. Three is better than two!" He tried to think of more silly, cliche things to say, but came up with nothing.
Instead, he started towards the storerooms, stepping into the passage that led to them. He popped his head in the first one, noticed it was almost completely empty with few places to hide things, and withdrew. Then, it was onto the next room. This looked like it had more possibilities, what with the multitude of sacks and shelving units. He poked his head around it a bit, then cried out in triumph. There, behind a large barrel of numbweed, were five small eggs!
"Rhia! I found some!" he said excitedly. However, when he picked one of them up, he realized it was much colder than it should have been, and his high hopes dropped considerably. He made a sling out of the bottom of his tunic and carefully placed them in it, making sure they didn't put too much pressure on one another, and rushed them out of the room and up to the kitchens. He stood for a moment, unsure of what to do for sand, then almost hit himself upside the head for his stupidity. This was a weyr, and there was plenty of heated sand in the Hatching Grounds. That would do quite well as a temporary measure, until he could get a pot by the fire. He dug small indents in the sand, and placed each of the five eggs in them, hoping that he hadn't been too late. He hovered worriedly over them.

Rhia took off running from the room she had been combing when T'rin let out a triumphant cry. She followed him up to the Hatching Sands and then vanished back into the tunnels. She returned a few minutes later with a basket.
"It'll be easier to watch them and turn them if we put them in the basket and put it on the night hearth. That is always kept going."
She scooped some sand into the basket and offered it to T'rin. "I'm going to go keep looking. There's no telling where Gylfie hid hers, or if those were Gylfie's and we're looking for Micras!"
A few minutes later, Rhia returned cradling two eggs and the shell of another. "Tunnel snakes got to at least one. I'm not sure about the others."
There was every likelihood that most, maybe even all, of the eggs wouldn't hatch, but there was some hope!

Relina tilted her head at the eggs before looking at Rhia.
"Soranith is well, she is growing fast." She then turned her attentio0n quickly to T'rin, glaring at him slightly.
"I am Relina, Weyrling of Green Soranith." She said before heading into the storerooms with her flitts stiffly.
