Orena felt the tap on her shoulder, and turned to see who was there, feeling certain that whoever it was, they were going to tell her to get up and get out of the way to let someone more important in there. Which was a horrid thought, why would someone do a thing like that? But there was no one standing there. Well ... there was, but not close enough to have touched her. In the corner of her twisted-around vision, she saw a flash of something brown disappearing out of sight and she tried to twist that far. In the end, she spun around the other way to see what it was.
All she saw was a brown dragonet sitting there and looking smug. Orena gave him a confused look, glanced around, and then went back to staring at the babies that were hatching. Maybe she'd just imagined the whole thing. But it seemed none of the other babies were hatching yet ... surely they weren't all dead!
That would be awful!

A dark russet brown hatchling emerged from one of the slightly larger eggs on the hearth. The little creature would grow to be a medium sized brown for a flitt. The brown chirped and wobbled around, trying to find food.
He stumbled and sat down in front of Catilena with a hungry trill. His belly felt like it was sticking to his backbone and he broadcasted his hunger to the human nearest him. It wasn't nearly as strong as the hunger a hungry dragon hatchling broadcasted to his or her bonded, but it was enough to clue the girl in that this brown was waiting for her to feed it.

Catilena was surprised at the little brown creature that plopped down in front of her, but she reached out to it with a peice of meat and it gobbled it up without hesitation. The little creature delighted her so much that she giggled slightly and she gently picked up the creature, bringing the sqawking creature close to her before feeding it more. She ceased looking around and concentrated on her task.
"I wonder if Impressing a dragon is like this? So, when are you going to tell me your name little one?" She asked it, knowing full well that dragons knew their names upon hatching.

T'ren chuckled at the new owner of the little brown. "They don't know their names my dear. They are intelligent, but not quite as intelligent as dragons. Think of a really smart flying canine and you'll be close to what a firelizard is."
His green squawked adamantly and he stuffed another piece of meat in her mouth. "This one should be full soon. Her belly is already big." He stroked the soft hide and then turned back to Catilena. "He will learn his name after you have given him one. Impressing a dragon is a lot more intense." A dreamy smile crossed the brownrider's face.
"Dragons can speak. Firelizards can just broadcast basic emotions and hazy images, at least that's what I've heard from others who have the creatures. This little girl is my first one. Danaeth thinks they are cute and he loves to have them help him bathe. If you train him well, he should be a good messenger. Browns are a lot steadier than greens."
"Oh look, another one is hatching."

Another egg split open after rocking furiously from its occupants efforts. At first glance, this little one, who was large compared to the other firelizards, appeared to be a bronze. However, no bronze had ever had such a feminine shape. She rolled out of her egg with an indignant sound and then straightened herself, trying to get the egg shell off her damp wings.
Her hide was a deep, burnished bronze with a paler gold undertone. She was a copper, like a few of the dragonets that had hatched in previous dragon hatchings in the Weyr. She would grow to be slightly larger than a bronze, but nowhere near as big as a silver or a gold would.

Orena watched in utter, silent amazement as a flitter hatched and made its way to a girl not to far from where she was sitting. The look of wonder and delight on the girl's face was almost as interesting as the sight of the little flitter itself. So small, delicate, and ... cute! Baby flitters were cute! How about that? They looked like babies! Orena hadn't known what to expect, and somehow had managed to assume that baby flitters looked just like adults ... only ... smaller. Apparently not!
Face splitting into a grin, she looked looked up at the rider that spoke to answer the other girl's questions, all ears for what was being said. If she managed to convince once to come her way, it would certainly be valuable information. And even if she didn't, it was still quite interesting. "But how do you decide what to call them? Are there better names that they like better?" Orena piped up with. Because her attention was shifted, she completely missed getting to watch the next one hatching. If she had seen it, she would have been stuck staring in amazement.

D'car had heard the news of the flitt hatching, but continued on with what he was doing. He was quite content with simply doing his chores while everyone else attended this thing and left him alone. Unfortunantly, that was not to be so. A drudge had found him and insisted he go to this hatching.
“What's the point? I've got my dragon. I've no use for chittery creatures”, he responded back to her, a bit aggitated that she wouldn't leave him alone. Thinking the conversation was over, D'car went back to focusing on his chores.
“Hey! Wait a just a minute!”, D'car exclaimed as the drudge had now gotten aggitated herself and began pushing the weyrling towards the hatching. Thankfully he was not too far away. The drudge wasn't much older than D'car. She sighed to herself as she shoved him along, wondering if this rigid boy would ever bed a lady.
D'car could now see the crowd of people gathered. Oh that's just great. The last thing I want is to be around a group of people. I was perfectly fine on my own. He aggresively slung his shoulder forward so the girl would release him. “I'm here, you can go now”, he said in a very cold, harsh manner as he made his way towards the rest of the crowd. He bumped past a couple people, whether accidental or not, and positioned himself so that he could atleast see these creatures he was forced to come here for.
“What a stiff”, the drudge huffed and walked off.

Kira just wanted to stay in bed today. She didn't feel like getting up, she didn't even feel like moving. Ever since she had found out about what had happened, she felt...numb. She wasn't her usual cheery, flirty self. But her dragonet insisted she go. Kira shrugged indifferently as she made her way through the crowd. She grabbed a piece of meat and simply waited to see if she'd get the chance to feed one of these creatures. It was so strange seeing this girl with no expression on her face, no joy at all.

On the opposite end of the spectrum from either weyrling, G'han entered with K'dan as he rested a hand on the man's back and shoved him into the room. “Oh come on. Sharan and Azure could both use a companion. It's been awhile since I've been to one of these”, G'han said with a grin.
“Oof!”, K'dan exclaimed as he was pushed into the room. “Alright, alright. You've made your point”, K'dan said as he now turned his attention to the crowd of people. He had stopped for a moment to take notice and as he had done so, G'han walked past him and grabbed a piece of meat of his own. K'dan shook his head, he could see how some people got so exasperated with G'han. He still smiled, however. It was easy to be exasperated with such a character like G'han and still be able to laugh about it. K'dan followed G'han's lead and grabbed a piece of meat of his own.
Perhaps he was right though. Perhaps Sharan could use a buddy. It'd probably keep the flitt from aggervating him so often. Or me. Hydrath interjected. K'dan smiled. He knew one of Sharan's favorite things was to harrass the blue when K'dan was indisposed. Yes. Or you.

Last but not least was the Lordholder of Caspian Hold, Bynor himself. He had come on official business. Whether or not the weyr knew about it, Caspian was having quite a bit of trouble with a murderer on the loose. Bynor was now hard pressed to make a more formal and personal request of the weyr and had gone personally to meet with the weyrwoman.
Usually Bynor loved this sort of hands on approach, especially with the weyr. He had made sure it was well known that he had been seeking stronger personal ties with the weyr while so many other holds wanted to shirk their duties or was still hesitant about where they stood with the weyr. Bynor was doing his best to make Caspian the example hold for others to follow suit.
But upon his arrival he had caught wind of a flitt hatching. Despite the dark cloud that loomed over his hold, he found the joy in such news. He had even run into a dragonrider who asked if he wished to have one of his own. The man smiled broadly. “I'd love one. I was just discussing with one of my advisors the other day about how handy such a creature would be around the hold. He finds it such a bother to have to borrow one from time to time”, the Lordholder responded.
The dragonrider nodded politely. “Follow me then”, he said courtiously, offering his aid. He showed the Lordholder just where it was taking place. Once Bynor caught sight of the crowd, the dragonrider bowed farewell to him. “You do not wish for one yourself?”, he asked curiously.
“Oh no sir! I've already got one of my own and she's quite a handful”, he chuckled and nodded a goodbye as he left. Bynor smiled at the man and nodded in return before making his way to the crowd. He saw a couple of men, dragonriders by the looks of them, grab a piece of meat and approach where the flitts were. Bynor did the same, hoping today would be his lucky day.

T'ren turned at the sound of another's voice speaking to him. He shrugged, "I've seen people name theirs all sorts of strange names. One sailor back at home named his blue 'Blue.' I'd hope that the people here are a little more creative than he was!" The man laughed, tossing his head back to get a lock of firey red hair away from his eyes. He was due for a haircut but hadn't had the time.
He glanced down at his own flitt. She had finally quit demanding meat and had fallen fast asleep on his arm. "I guess they're like dragonets. The gorge and then they sleep it off. This should be rather easy after Danaeth! He was a handful, always getting into things! Of course, back at Eteii, I was getting into things myself." He winked at Orena. "By the way, what's your name lass?"
He heard a demanding cheep. "Looks like you'll have the chance to name one yourself! Feed her!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
While T'ren was talking to Orena, the copper had made her way out of the circle of eggs. Her eyes were whirling bright red from hunger and she poked Orena's head with her nose and cheeped demandingly. She wanted food and she wanted it now! This flitt would be an enigma, demanding and haughty one moment, sweet and gentle the next. Her owner would never know what to expect from her except for the fact that she would always protect her owner from any threat, real or imagined.
[Posting Jil in as per request. I now request that he please does not get a flitt xD I'm a crazy person and I feel like two characters with flits is enough]
J'kiran hadn't been planning on stopping by the flit hatching at all, but Kaenith had expressed interest in the event and asked his rider to at least go so he might be able to tell him about it. So while Kaenith stayed behind at the weyr they were occupying while the weyrling barracks were damaged, J'kiran agreed to make an appearance at the flitt hatching. He stepped into the becoming-crowded room, bypassing the meat. He wasn't planning on trying to impress one. When he caught sight of Kira standing nearby he made his way towards her, offering a smile and a small nod-sort-of-bow.
"Evening, Miss Kira," he said, blinking once when he noticed how distant she seemed, his smile flickering away. "Is everything alright?"
Kira had just been standing near, simply staring at the hatching taking place. When Jil approached her and spoke to her, it only just barely registered in her mind. She slowly turned to glance at him. Her eyes were vacant. The vacant stare she gave Jil was perhaps the most un-animated, un-emotional thing she had ever done at this weyr.
Everyone saw her as the upbeat, flirty Kira. That was a Kira forged turns before she came to this weyr. But now, now was probably a closer resemblance to the girl she was before. But there were now different reasons for this shell she now found herself in again and it wasn't quite the same as last time. This time there was a different circumstance altogether.
She said nothing, but simply shook her head slowly at Jil to answer his question. She was lying, of course. She knew she was lying, and she knew Jil would know she was lying. But this wasn't something she'd talk about in such a public place with such a crowd. Though, she probably wouldn't talk about it at all. The only reason her copper understood any of what was going on with Kira was because of their bond.
Kira now regretted being talked into coming. This was probably the first time she got up and around and did anything outside of what her weyrling duties required of her. She turned away from Jil, her expression seemed sadder when she did. But as she did, she took one step back, leaning a shoulder into Jil.
She may have been trying to close herself off from everyone, but part of her wanted some comfort. Jil was probably the only one in the weyr she'd feel the most comfortable with. He was a gentleman in all aspects, and that characteristic of his had gained more trust with Kira than she'd given anyone else.
"Oh! Really? So ... just whatever you decide to ... OOOOoooh!" Orena shrieked like she'd been goosed when the copper flitter poked at her. She'd never seen it coming, and it had been the last thing she'd expected to happen to her, despite the rider's attempted warning. Orena flailed a bit, before she quite realized what was going on, and actually saw the flitter. With a beaming grin of amazement, Orena tried to catch her before she went splat due to Orena's surprise. "Oh, I'm sorry! I'm so sorry! Poor little guy! My, you're pretty! Such a nice color, too! Aren't you just adorable?! And big! My!" Orena rattled off, happily, before helpfully stuffing the flitter's mouth with food, never realizing that it was a her flitter she was holding, not a him.
As the Copper started gulping down lumps of food that were really too big to be gulped by something so small, Orena was on cloud nine petting her new flitter as she fed it, giggling happily to herself. "Here, want some more? What should I call you, huh? You really do need a name, and that nice man over there said I could call you anything I wanted to! Hm! Must think of something nice and manly, yes. For a big strapping fellow like you. We don't want to call you something wimpy!" All the while she was rattling on, the flitter was trying to poke something down her throat that was too big to get in her mouth easily.
It was quite plain that Orena hadn't the first clue what she was doing, but she was equally as obviously very happy about having a pet.
T'ren winced and then started laughing. The green on his arm protested the movement and the noise that Orena was making.
"Calm down or you're going to scare her." He glanced at the flitt and started laughing again until he realized that the meat the girl was feeding the copper was way too big. He took out the belt knife that he had returned to its sheath on his belt after using it for his green and reached for the bowl.
"Woah woah woah! That's WAY too big for her to be trying to eat! She's still a baby!" his voice was stern and commanding simply because he was afraid that the flitt might choke on the meat and be injured. "Here. I've cut some smaller pieces for you. Don't let her eat so quickly and don't feed her anything she couldn't swallow in one gulp at first because she's so hungry she probably won't chew!"
He gave her a wry smile to try to soften his harsh words. "And this little thing is a female. All of the coppers that have hatched thus far have been females, and unless she is just a very feminine looking male, this one is a girl too."
Andilay watched as the little midnight started to slow her cute little lady nibbling and soon, the little critter was licking her maw for the leftover juices and sighing contentedly.
At that point, Andilay went ahead and scooped up the flitter and held her in the crook of her arm, stroking the warm hide of the littleling. "My, yes, you are terribly adorable. Now... what to call you? Not Lady... you are not light enough, though you do have the manners. Hmm... highness? No, to snooty... I got it! Mistress! It has many uses. Some endearing and some... naughty. I like. You like?"
The midnight flitter was silent a moment, as if she was rolling the name around a tongue that could not speak the language, then peeped an ascent. Mistress it was. Andilay smiled at her little flitter and glanced over at Rayn, who just happened to be looking at her with a smug look. Andilay huffed and then shrugged. Okay, so having a pet probably wouldn't be too bad.... "Fine, I take it back. She's adorable and I love her."
Rayn grinned and nodded. "Good. I think you'll be just fine. Now you have a pet to take care of instead of me. Danny misses you, though."
Andilay's scowl was so fierce she was sure it could make eggs sour. "That is one fur ball I hope to never see again. I think Mistress will be much more behaved than that thing ever was."
Rayn rolled her eyes and shook her head. "Oh, he means well."
Andilay made an 'Mmmhmmm' noise before turning toward the sound of a familiar voice. She looked through out the increasing throng of people and finally found her favorite bronze rider among them. "G'han!"
Andilay squeezed next to him and gave him a kiss on the cheek. "Come to try your luck?"
G'han had turned from K'dan to see the Lordholder arrive. He thought that very odd. He knew this hatching was drawing a crowd. But was it such a big deal that the Lordholder of Caspian would come? G'han chuckled to himself, that couldn't be it. He obviously had more pressing matters to make an appearance at the weyr. G'han did see Bynor around often, but it was always for official business. G'han liked that about him. He was very hands on.
Just as G'han thought to give a proper personal introduction by greeting him, Andilay found him first. To be honest, he didn't mind that much at all. Infact a grin was now plastered on his face as she kissed him on the cheek. When she asked if he'd try his luck, G'han smirked and raised an eyebrow.
"I'm always game", he said in a flirty manner as he rested the hand that was not holding a scrap of meat on her hip. Clearly G'han had twisted her words intentionally. "But now's not the time. I'm not one to put that kind of thing publicly", he winked at her. With that said, he removed his hand slowly. and turned to K'dan.
"K'dan, you remember Andilay yes? The gal at the lake. Wasn't wearing much. You should remember her", he said with a wide grin and a nudge of his elbow.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
K'dan turned his attention away from the flitts to look over at the girl G'han had mentioned. Oh yes, he remembered her. "Yes, I remember her", he said to G'han. He nodded slightly at her. "A pleasure to meet you again, Miss", he said as courtiously as he could muster.

Andilay enjoyed the tingle G'hans hand made, and the lingering effect that was left after he removed it. "Well, I really don't mind scandalizing the public with myself, but I do hate to corrupt so young..."
At that moment, Mistress made a little chirrup sound. It was so adorable Andilay had the oddest compulsion to coo and speak baby nonsense at her. She checked the impulse and simply stroked the flittlet a bit more.
Andilay smirked at the way G'han described her to the man she remembered from the beach. And she had, indeed, been scantily clad. A point that wasn't so now. She was happily back in her leathers, her sword slung on her hip like usual.
"Ah, yes. My companion, Rayn, is over there. Go let her ooze her happy flitter-baby ooze at you. It's about the only time she's in a good mood... when there are small pets about; and me not deterring her from getting one." Andilay shooed K'dan in Rayn's direction. "She's by the brown dragonett. Can't miss her spiky red hair. Go, go."
She smiled as she turned back to G'han. "Soooooo?"

But as soon as K'dan had greeted her she was...wait, what? She was pushing him away? And off on someone else? As he was pushed aside, he looked back at the two. Oh, he got it now. But wasn't private time kind of a moot point in a crowd full of people?
K'dan had to stop to a halt on his tip toes to make sure he didn't bump into the woman. That'd have been really awkward. While on his tip toes, and hands extended out and beside him in a sort of halting position, K'dan smiled a bit goofy at Rayn.
"Um...hi?", he said a bit unsure of himself, especially in the sort of position he was in and the way it was so forced. "Oh. I'm K'dan. Bluerider of Hydrath", he introduced himself as he got off his tip toes and stood on his feet correctly. Bumping into her or not, this was still going to be awkward. He could tell. He extended his hand to shake hers.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
G'han raised an eyebrow as Andilay pushed K'dan away and onto Rayn. "You know. You're going to give that poor kid a heart attack if you just force him on women. I've yet to teach him the art of wooing women", G'han chuckled and shook his head.
G'han sighed. He called K'dan a kid, but really the bluerider had grown into his own. The bronzerider still saw clearly the young candidate and blue weyrling of the olden days. But he also saw a twist on the lad's character that could have only taken place as he grew up. K'dan was a real soft spoken gentleman with good manners.
"Heh. Difference between me and him though? He'll make one lady real lucky", G'han grinned and shook his head.
Andilay smirked. "Where as you'll enjoy making several women real lucky? Heh, what have I gotten myself into?"
Andilay shook her head. "Oh! Might I introduce, Mistress? My cute little miss from this very hatching. She is quite the lady."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rayn was surprised at the way Andilay had pushed this man at her, but, he seemed rather...ok. "K'dan. Blue... Hydrath. Hmmm. I am Rayn, of brown Llanwreth." Rayn gave Llanwreth a little pat/caress when she said his name. "It is nice to... uh... meet you? Are you a friend of Andy's? I don't think I have seen you around before."

G'han shrugs his shoulders. "You could put it that way. Me? I like women. I'll please plenty in my own way, I'm sure. That kid? It'll have substance", he said with a smile.
G'han looked down at the flitt, then back to Andilay. "Mistress?", he questioned her. He then grinned. "How fitting", he said, a wide grin on his face. "I'd have brought Azure. But he may just cause a commotion. He can be quite noisey", G'han said with a sigh.
But of course Azure knew G'han had spoken of him and took that as his que to pop in and land on G'han's head. He wrapped his blue tail around G'han's neck, nearly strangling him. "Dear Faranth! You have the worst timing. I just said I DON'T want you here!", G'han exclaimed. Azure simply chirped happily and released the hold he had on G'han's neck slightly. "Oh why thank you for allowing me to get some oxygen. How very generous of you", G'han said sarcasticly.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
K'dan blinked. "Her...friend? No. I can't say I know her well enough, having only met her twice. But she seems like a nice sort. G'han fancies her, or she fancies him. Or they both fancy each other?", K'dan was starting to ramble a bit, poor lad was a bit nervous. "Oh yes. I'm G'han's friend. Perhaps if you know him, you'd know me best that way?", K'dan offered up to her.
He withdrew his hand, probably feeling something akin to being shot down that she hadn't shook his hand. Well that was just embarrassing. This whole situation was. K'dan was doing his best not to turn red from all this and keep his composure.
Andilay grinned and nodded at his assessment of Her flitter's name. "I thought so too."
Andilay couldn't help the snicker when Azure popped out of between and clutched onto G'han's head. It was rather comical. " 'Speak of the devil, and he shall appear' and all that. Hiii Azure. Look, I have one of your distant little sisters."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Andilay fancied G'han? Well, she had kinda noticed that. Maybe they would get together... but then, if the rumors about him were true, he wasn't the best sort to get involved with. If anything, Andilay was in it for play. If she had a play partner, she always seemed a bit better at her work... because then she felt she deserved more play afterwords. Which was quite odd seeing her at both times. She could go from dead serious swordswoman, to flirty, sexy bombshell pretty quickly.
Rayn was just the typical red head and that meant, well... she had a temper. But since K'dan wasn't hitting on her, it was still dormant. In fact, the way he was babbling was kinda cute. "G'han is a good dinner buddy. He livens up the conversation. But he has never said anything about you at the dinner table."
When K'dan withdrew his hand, that's when Rayn noticed it, and his blush. She blinked then offered an, "Oh, sorry. That was rude." And offered her own hand to shake.
